IEC provides design advice and approved Pre-Completion Testing (PCT) under Approved Document E of The Regulations. New build or material change of use (conversion) dwelling-houses, flats and rooms for residential purposes all require PCT in order to obtain certification required by Building Control Officers to sign-off the development on completion.
Approved Document E of the Building Regulations contains minimum performance standards for airborne and impact sound insulation. Airborne sounds are from sources such as music, TV and speech. Structure-borne sounds are generated by footsteps (footfall) and objects dropped on the floor surface.
We have many years of experience in assisting architects and developers design residential developments to meet sound insulation standards. We have provided sound insulation design advice and testing for all sizes of development from the material change of use (conversion) of a house into two flats through to large new build development sites for major house builders, as well as hotel complexes at sports stadia.
