Planning permission was granted to convert the former Norwich Union (Aviva) offices into 200 apartments.
Acoustic Design and Testing
IEC was commissioned to provide acoustic design and testing services for the project to demonstrate compliance with Approved Document E of The Building Regulations. The range of services provided included advice on separating floor and wall constructions to meet performance standards, calculation of absorption within communal areas to meet Requirement E3 and Pre-Completion Testing (PCT) for Building Control sign-off.
Site Visits and Testing
A number of site visits were carried out during the scheme to review the works as they progressed and carry out testing when sections of the building were at sufficiently complete (2nd fix stage). Testing was often undertaken outside of normal working hours to ensure quiet conditions during the test procedures and not impede site operations during the working day.
Airborne and Impact Sound
The development achieved a high level of airborne and impact sound insulation between flats and easily met the minimum performance standards from Approved Document E. ANC approved sound insulation test reports and certificates were issued by IEC for the development and presented to Building Control as part of the sign-off process.
Calulation Method B
Using calculation Method B which takes into account all surface finishes in each octave band, it was also demonstrated that communal areas adequately controlled reverberant sound and met Requirement E3.
IEC is registered under the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) Scheme (No. 170) for Pre-Completion Testing.
