Planning and Residential Air Quality Assessments

Air Quality Assessments for Planning and Residential Developments

Planning and Residential Air Quality Assessments

An air quality assessment can be a simple air quality screening assessment or a detailed air quality assessment involving dispersion modelling.

IEC assessments will summarise the relevant assessment criteria, review air quality monitoring data in the vicinity of the proposed development and considers local meteorological conditions affecting the dispersion and dilution of emissions.

Call us today on 01502 732733 or send us a message below to discuss your planning and residential development air quality assessment requirements.

Vehicle Emissions

The impact changes in vehicle movements on the local road network following completion of development needs to be considered, as well as the introduction of new development and resulting exposure in a designated Air Quality Management Area (AQMA).

Modelling of vehicle emissions utilising ADMS software may also be necessary depending on the scale of the development with assessment against Air Quality Objectives applicable for residential, commercial and mineral developments.

Air Quality Assessment Requirements

Environmental Protection UK (EPUK) and the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) have produced guidance on indicative criteria for requiring an air quality assessment in their land-use planning development control: planning for air quality (2017). The IAQM has also provided a guide to the assessment of air quality impacts on designated nature conservation sites (2020).

Technical guidance for Local Air Quality Management is provided in DEFRA Local Air Quality Management Technical Guidance (LAQM.TG16).
