Construction and Demolition Vibration Surveys

Vibration Surveys for Demolition and Construction Sites

Demolition and Construction Vibration Surveys

Construction projects can trigger a requirement from your local authority to carry out a noise and vibration assessment at the planning stage and/or monitor noise and vibration levels during the construction phase.

Vibration assessments follow the guidance of British Standard 5228 ‘Code of practice for noise and vibration control on construction and open sites – Part 2: Vibration’, British Standard 7385 ‘Evaluation and Measurement for Vibration in Buildings’ and British Standard 6472 ‘Guide to evaluation of human exposure to vibration in buildings’.

In the event predicted or monitored vibration levels exceed the prescribed construction vibration criteria we can provide recommendations for vibration amelioration measures.

We can prepare appropriate documentation in order to obtain prior consent under Section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act or receipt of a Section 60 notice on the site. A s60 notice can restrict the operating hours of the site, restrict contractors in their working practices and potentially impost a noise level limit which should not be exceeded.

Monitoring & Assessment of vibration on construction sites
Monitoring of ground-borne vibration and air overpressure from demolition projects
Live Access to Vibration Reporting
Weekly or Monthly reports available

Semi-Permanent Monitoring

We can provide semi-permanent construction noise and vibration monitoring (as well as dust). The  monitoring equipment can be maintained every few weeks, with reports prepared on a weekly or monthly basis. Vibration levels in terms of the Vibration Dose Value (VDV) and/or the Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) can be reported.

We have recently upgraded to a web portal system in order to allow live access to noise and vibration levels for the contractor.  This enables alerts to be sent via email or phone when noise and vibration thresholds are exceeded, allowing the works to briefly cease and investigations to be carried to identify the cause of the exceedance.
