Construction projects can trigger a requirement from your local authority to carry out a noise and vibration assessment at the planning stage and/or monitor noise and vibration levels during the construction phase.
Vibration assessments follow the guidance of British Standard 5228 ‘Code of practice for noise and vibration control on construction and open sites – Part 2: Vibration’, British Standard 7385 ‘Evaluation and Measurement for Vibration in Buildings’ and British Standard 6472 ‘Guide to evaluation of human exposure to vibration in buildings’.
In the event predicted or monitored vibration levels exceed the prescribed construction vibration criteria we can provide recommendations for vibration amelioration measures.
We can prepare appropriate documentation in order to obtain prior consent under Section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act or receipt of a Section 60 notice on the site. A s60 notice can restrict the operating hours of the site, restrict contractors in their working practices and potentially impost a noise level limit which should not be exceeded.
